DEBUT CONTENT CREATORS:
We are building a body of research around investing in “debut” content creators. Many of these projects will help us map the the way in which new (or nearly new) media content creators add value to our (social) media. Our media and social media networks can only reach their full potential if all people hold a stake in the development and distribution.
1: Introduce debut content creators to the tools, outlets, and collaborators they need to make strong & impactful media.
2: Crack open the plethora of opportunities for self-expression available on & offline.
3: Expand expectations for all people to be present in our media. Our media can only reach its full potential if all people hold a stake in the development and distribution.
Update: Over a dozen workshops have served 100+ new media makers including workshops at W.O.M.E.N. at The Point CDC, Project SOL at Grand Street Settlement, Double Discovery Center at Columbia University, The Center, Bay Eden Senior Center, JASA Club 76, Bay Ridge Senior Center, & others!
SOCIAL MEDIA SENIORS: A unique curriculum for media creators 65+! We partnered with JASA, Jewish Association Serving the Aging, to hold interactive technology workshops at senior centers in their network. Our work has taken us from centers in the the Bronx, to the Bay Ridge neighborhood in Brooklyn, to the Upper East Side. Depending on each center's resources the sessions range from groups huddled around computers to individuals using tablets and smartphones using mobile app.
TEDxMidAtlantic New Media Makers Session: In November 2013 we were asked to curate a session on New Media Makers. Over multiple speaker practice sessions and dinners three spectacular talks were formed. Watch Misra here:
